Attendance Statistics

One of the most important things you can do to be successful in this course is to attend class. Statistics show a large difference in grade between those students who have missed classes and those who attend regularly. Last year's statistics are shown in the chart below. Attendance was taken in the class six times at random intervals. A division was made at the point where students were absent at least 4 of the 6 times (attended less than three times). The performance of the two populations were compared for each exam and the final grade. As is clearly evident, those students who did not attend class regularly performed worse than those who came to class. Even by the second exam, the disparity was over 5%, and the difference was over 10% on the final exam and final grades. This represents a full letter grade difference.
